Pharmacogenomics can be considered the organic combination of gene function and molecular pharmacology, and in many aspects this combination is essential. Pharmacogenomics differs from general genetics in that its primary purpose is not the discovery of human genome genes, but rather the relatively simple application of known genetic theories to improve patient treatment. It could also be said that pharmacogenomics aims at drug efficacy and safety, studying the relationship between various gene mutations and drug efficacy and safety.
